Prospective studies & clinical development
Building on the results to date, CARCIMUN is preparing further prospective clinical studies. The necessary development work has already been initiated. The focus is on clearly defined scientific questions and systematic validation of the intended applications.
Prospective studies in preparation
The longitudinal application of CARCIMUN technology is intended to make individual changes in the course of cancer traceable through repeated blood measurements and a personal baseline. Notable deviations are intended to be made available promptly to the treating care team as additional indications of possible changes in tumour activity โ including between routine follow-up imaging examinations. The clinical performance of this approach is to be validated in prospective studies.
The aim is to enable patients to take regular measurements even after returning home. The results are compared with a previously established individual baseline. Where defined deviations occur, the treating care team is intended to be notified automatically so that notable changes can be assessed clinically without delay. This application concept is to be validated in prospective studies.
Prospective studies are intended to investigate whether regular blood tests help detect changes in an individual's health status at an early stage. In the future, this approach could complement existing longevity systems with an additional, specific blood-test and longitudinal monitoring component, opening up new possibilities for individual health guidance.
Further study concepts ยท preparation and approval process
CARCIMUN aims to use the patented blood-test technology in the future for indeterminate pulmonary nodules and mammography findings requiring further assessment. By providing a more precise assessment of whether cancer might be present, the aim is to support more targeted medical decisions and, where possible, avoid unnecessary biopsies or surgical procedures.
The required approvals are currently being processed. Once they have been granted, the corresponding studies are to be conducted and scientific and clinical validation undertaken.
AI & Data
Repeated measurements open up a temporal perspective. Individual baselines are intended to help describe changes relative to a person's starting point.
CARCIMUN is already further developing this analytical function with partners in AI & Data. The focus is on assessing AI-assisted methods that could interpret individual changes relative to a personal baseline and, in the future, link them with further medical and health-related information.
Miniaturisation
The existing laboratory technology provides the foundation for long-term development towards miniaturised measurement systems. Microchip technology, compact readout systems and digital analysis are intended to be brought together. One aim is to create the conditions for future decentralised and point-of-care applications.
Molecular biology research
Complementary molecular biological approaches broaden the scientific view of biological relationships. They form a distinct line of research within the platform's long-term development.
The research explores potential foundations for additional scientific and technological developments and future diagnostic methods.
